Hylonme the Dinner Lady

I like the title 'dinner lady' because it implies that she is a lady and that she has an undefined role in the ritual we call dinner. She could be assisting during dinner, eating dinner or even be eaten for dinner.

Hylonme was a female centaur in Greek mythology. She was present at the battle against the Lapiths, where she lost her husband, the centaur Cyllarus, whom she loved very much. She was so heart broken she committed suicide.

The Greek rhetorician Philostratus the Elder saw a painting of female Centaurs in Naples and describes them as sisters and wives of the male centaurs who live on Mount Pelion with their kids.

"How beautiful the Centaurides are, even where they are horses; for some grow out of white mares, others are attached to chestnut mares, and the coat’s of others are dappled, but they glisten like those of horses that are well cared for. There is also a white female Centaur that grows out of a black mare, and the very opposition of the colours helps to produce the united beauty of the whole."[7]
