It has been a tough few years for long haul airlines, with ongoing chaos at Heathrow, the delay over the launch of the new A380 Airbus, and last but not least climate change protests.

Soon all this could change with the development of a world wide 'airline' that will 'fly' underground, so that none of the carbon will be released into the atmosphere. Instead it will be gathered up and crushed up into diamonds.

South Africa has a keen interest to get involved in the project and are having the first underground jet engine installed in their gold mine near Carletonville.

There have been some concerns over how safe it will be to 'fly' with British Ground Ways given that 12 times as many people are killed in mining accidents in South Africa than in Australia.

In response to this William Wales the chief Executive said:

"Whats wrong with you people? We are saving the planet and all you can do is complain.

Would you rather we started the project in China? Why don't you look at their mining safety records."

Recent mining accidents accross the world include:

October 2004: Daping mine at Henan in China explodes killing 148.

November 2005: Gas explosion kills 169 at Dongfeng coal mine, China.

September 2006: Fifty miners die in mine collapse in Jharhhand, India.

March 2007: Blast at Siberian coal mine kills at least 110.
