Project context

Better Than Christmas

This painting was made for Better Than Christmas, an Arts Council England-funded participatory art project by James Connelly and Leila Redpath. In 2008, we surveyed 1,000 people, asking: ‘If you could have anything you wanted for Christmas, what would it be?’ This participant answered: ‘a lasting acknowledgement of a baby girl who was stillborn and whose loss the family felt had never been recognised’ Selected responses were transformed into paintings.

More information about the project and the other wish paintings can be found at betterthanchristmas.com.
